Care3 CEO Featured in Authority Magazine Discussing Five Ways to Improve Healthcare in the US

As part of an extensive series collecting insights from healthcare thought leaders and innovators, Christina D. Warner of Authority Magazine (UPDATED 5/17/19: and Arianna Huffington’s Thrive Global) featured Karen CEO David S. Williams to get his insights on ways to improve the US healthcare system.

Care3 CEO David S. Williams III

Care3 CEO David S. Williams III

The article lede: “The healthcare industry has to treat patient-centricity as a north star, not a check box” with David S. Williams III, Founder of Karen by Care3”

And here’s a quick excerpt:

The healthcare industry has to treat patient-centricity as a north star, not a check box. That includes consumers having ready access to their health information. That includes communicating in ways that patients can understand and use. No one cares more about an individual’s health more than themselves and their families. I have encountered many doctors whose attitude is, “if patients just did what I say, they’d be healthier.” Well, if a doctor can’t build a relationship of trust with a patient, why would a patient follow the doctor’s advice? Remember, I am living proof that doctors can be wrong. My mother lived for 28 YEARS after doctors told her she had six months to live.

Read the entire article here and give some “claps” to show love for David’s ideas. Thanks Authority Magazine!

Care3 Transforming Interaction Between Consumers and Healthcare Professionals

(Los Angeles, CA) – January 31, 2019 – Care3, www.care3.co), the leading care collaboration platform for healthcare delivered in the home and community, is transforming conventional interactions between care professionals, patients, and families for PACE and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). Conventional patient/doctor interactions are periodic verbal exchanges in an office setting with information transfer limited by patient memory of events since the previous visit. Care3 uses the three (3) main elements of communication – text, media, and data – to create digital “Connected Journals” between consumers and providers to capture the ongoing patient experience. Patients share their experiences not only through text messaging, but also by tracking care task completion, medication adherence, and symptom severity. If an adverse event occurs, it can be reported in real-time for providers to intervene, if necessary.

“Connected Journals allow consumers and care professionals to ‘talk’ about care without an office visit, phone call, or appointment.” explains David S. Williams, CEO and Co-Founder of Care3. “This new interactive format also generates previously uncaptured data critical for improved care planning and real-time clinical response to adverse events.”

Connected Journals have led to significant impact in number of interactions, clinical data points generated, and care plan adherence. In three separate case studies with dozens of participants, Connected Journals enabled:

  • the capture of more than 360 additional clinically relevant data points per patient per quarter

  • increased care plan adherence by 68% during the three-month period

  • 450+ quarterly interactions per patient

  • an average of two intra-quarter adjustments in care plans (rather than only two per year)

To learn how Connected Journals from Karen can help your Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Rural Health Clinic (RHC), PACE program, or other community-based care organization reduce costs of care and improve engagement through virtual communication services, contact us for a demo at demo@care3.co.

(Los Angeles, CA) – Care3™ (www.care3.co), the world’s first team collaboration platform for healthcare delivered in the home and community, has been selected as a finalist in the 20th Innovations in Healthcare ABBY Awards. The final competition will be held in San Francisco, CA on December 12.

“Care3 uses text, media, and data to create a full digital picture of care delivered outside of health facilities,” said David S. Williams, CEO of Care3, who will present at the awards event. “Care3 has been proven to reduce falls leading to emergency visits and hospitalizations, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars each month for senior care programs.”

Care3 currently serves the senior care community through partnerships with risk-bearing health entities including Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) for collaboration on care in the home and community. The company is also exploring partnerships with health insurers looking for innovation to reduce costs and increase patient and family engagement.

The event will be hosted by the Adaptive Business Leaders (ABL) Organization, whose first awards event was held in 1999, and since then has recognized over 60 innovative organizations whose approaches and technologies are making dramatic inroads in the quest to improve the quality of care and health outcomes – while reducing its cost. And this year, more than any other before, many of these innovations are blending technology with the human touch provided by providers, caregivers, and even family members and friends.

Past ABBY Award Winners:  Previous ABBY Award Winners include numerous companies that have made breakthroughs and transformative advances in medical devices, diagnostics, therapeutics, information technology, and electronic solutions, as well as organizations that have applied innovative systems and technology to providing care and coverage, decreasing the numbers of uninsured, and engaging healthcare consumers more actively in their care and health status - all with a view to reducing the cost of quality care.

Aging 2.0 Presents Its 8 Grand Challenges in Aging and Care3 Impacts Half of Them

Aging2_GCs.png

Care3 attended the Aging Into The Future conference in Los Angeles on Friday, March 2. The Aging 2.0 LA team did an amazing job with great programming. Aging 2.0 focuses its efforts on the eight pillars, which they identify as "Grand Challenges" shown in the image. Care3 touches four (!) of the eight Grand Challenges. This is how powerful our platform can be for seniors. The four areas Care3 impacts are:

Care Coordination

Care Coordination is the process by which health care professionals decide what care needs to be delivered, in what sequence, and when for a patient. The more people needed to deliver care, the more complicated the process is. Care3 simplifies this process by creating a collaborative planning platform where all health care team members create ONE plan detailing the actions that they will complete over time. This makes visibility and coordination simple for the healthcare team, but also has one other main benefit--the team can help families know what care to deliver in the home to supplement the care they receive in the community health system. And that brings us to the next impact area....

Caregiving

Families care for seniors when they're not in hospitals and other health facilities. We all have stories about how we cared for our mom or dad as they aged and ran into situations where we didn't know what to do or how to perform some care tasks effectively. Since Care3 itemizes the care tasks that the family should complete for optimal care, families receive instruction and education from their professional healthcare team on how and when to provide care. Care3 improves communication between family and care professionals while simultaneously improving caregiving quality for the loved one.

Screen-Shot-2015-10-16-at-5.59.25-AM.png

Daily Living & Lifestyle

Caregivers impact a senior's activities of daily living (ADLs). These include bathing, grooming, light housekeeping, and nutrition. Maximizing these activities helps seniors get ready for the world each day! Isolation can be reduced, better diet decisions drive higher energy, and most importantly, helps seniors remain living independently in their homes. Care3 helps facilitate ADL delivery in the home so each caregiver, whether family or professional, knows how to get the senior to live a healthy and active lifestyle.

Engagement & Purpose

Lastly, engagement and purpose keep us going at any age. Seniors are no different. When the three other challenges are being addressed and met, a senior has many more opportunities to engage with purpose-driven activities. Greater engagement can lead to longer life, higher quality of life and interactions with others. The Care3 mobile messaging app helps families communicate efficiently around health, sure, but it also encourages deep and meaningful interaction because conversations are private and secure. Families can initiate their most important conversations on Care3 and have peace of mind that their discussions are protected. Care3 strives to keep communications flowing between families to encourage purposeful engagement around health.

Care3_bundle_platform.png

We've designed Care3 to be inclusive with a senior's life without being disruptive. To learn more about how Care3 can help your care program and/or personal family, visit us at www.care3.co or contact us at aging@care3.co. Take care!

Care3 Selected to 3rd Class of Braddock Scholars with The Aspen Institute

(Los Angeles, CA) – Care3™ (www.care3.co), the world’s first team collaboration platform for healthcare delivered in the home and community, has been selected to participate in the 3rd class of Braddock Scholars with The Aspen Institute. Open to venture founders who have participated in one of the Aspen Institute fellowships, The Braddock Scholars Program helps companies ready to scale reach significance after achieving proof-of-concept.

“Care3 has proven to reduce falls leading to emergency visits and hospitalizations, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars each month for senior care programs,” said David S. Williams, CEO of Care3 and member of the 2013 class of Henry Crown Fellows with The Aspen Institute. “Scaling this type of cost savings industry-wide would change the calculus behind offering localized care for underserved populations in the United States and around the world.”

The program aims to channel the expertise of a senior mentor towards the challenges the Fellow faces. The mentorship is defined by this specific mandate to focus on key scale challenges identified at the outset of the relationship. Scholars and mentors commit to spending at least one hour per month, having “board level” conversations. The Scholar class meets at least once annually to mobilize the wider Scholar and Mentor network as a broader advisory community.

About the Braddock Scholars Program

Made possible thanks to the generosity of Aspen Institute trustee, Rick Braddock, the Braddock Scholars program supports Fellows of the Aspen Global Leadership Network who aim to have transformational impact on society by bringing their venture to significant scale.  The program supports selected Scholars through a combination of mentorship, peer learning activities, a grant to fund a key scale active of the scholars choosing, and enhanced connectivity across the Aspen Institute.
