So let's get into it. Remember, when you received your first diagnosis or your loved one received that first diagnosis? In addition to learning about the condition, your doctor also recommended lifestyle changes that could help alleviate the symptoms. On average, your doctor shared what was known in the medical evidence, literature, and any other anecdotal evidence gained through their experience treating others with the condition if they had any. I'm here to tell you to absolutely adopt those lifestyle changes. Live the lifestyle even when they're hard, even when they're polar opposites of your current lifestyle. I get it, change is hard, but adopting the lifestyle changes, those changes are the first step in feeling better.
(02:27)
You owe that to yourself at least, and in my opinion, it really is the least you can do for yourself. Just adopting behaviors that are supposed to make you healthy on average based on what's known in the evidence base and in the experience of your doctor. Now, how many times have you heard me say that everyone is different, that you are unique. That means when you received your diagnosis or your loved one received their diagnosis, it's unique from anyone else. It's unique from everyone else who has that condition. You may have a more severe version. You may have multiple conditions which could impact how this diagnosis is expressed in you, how you feel versus anyone else. You may have allergies that cause a different way of experiencing the condition or make the symptoms worse. There are countless variations of what can happen to you in your version of your condition, but the only number that matters is one, and that one is you. So you first have to live the new lifestyle. Do what you can to adopt the recommended behaviors.
(04:03)
Like I said, it's the least you can do for yourself. Now, here's the real opportunity. You're not here to do the least for yourself. You're a miracle maker. You already have a miracle mindset. That was the last episode, and if you haven't listened to that episode, stop here. Go back and listen to that episode. It is foundational. You have to have a miracle mindset. I just said, you're not here to do the least for yourself. You're here to make your miracle, so it's not enough to simply live the lifestyle you need to fully know yourself and how you react to having your condition. What does it mean day to day? What does a good day look like? What does a bad day look like? Did you have any major symptoms?
(05:11)
What are your triggers? What makes you feel bad? What makes you feel good? Now you can see it's not enough to simply live the lifestyle. To adopt the new behaviors, you have to log the lifestyle and what does that mean? To log the lifestyle, it means you have to write down, track whatever language you want to use. You have log what happens each day so you know how your daily life is impacted by your condition when you're adopting the new behaviors. I'll say it another way. You have to know what works and what doesn't. It all comes down to right when you know what works. It's a big win when you know what doesn't work, not to do that. Again, logging what happens each day gets you there.
(06:25)
I mean, think about it. You're going to have real time insights into what triggers symptoms that lead to bad days. You'll then devise ways to avoid those triggers. You'll also have the foresight to see them when they're coming and be able to prepare. If you can't avoid those triggers at the least, that is a huge improvement over simply living the lifestyle. It's that recognition that allows you to prepare to avoid triggers that cause negative symptoms that cause bad days. How powerful is that? By logging the lifestyle, you take control of your behaviors, your activities, and your experiences, so you reduce the impact of negative symptoms on your daily life.
(07:32)
You also reduce the frequency of negative symptoms on your daily life. That means you have more good days. That means you feel better more often. Isn't that the path to living better? The more you log, the more you identify triggers and negative behaviors, the easier it is to avoid them, to improve your life. And when you get really good at having a lot of good days, guess what happens? People start to notice, I've said it before, they'll think that you are a miracle, but you know the truth. Miracles aren't. Magic. Miracles are made. So here's another benefit. When you do interact with your doctor and healthcare team, when you have all of this logged information, this data, these experiences, you can give them a very accurate, a hyper accurate picture of your experiences. You can pinpoint what issues you have and ask them to help with a specific challenge.
(09:18)
You begin guiding them to help you better manage your condition better, manage your symptoms better, manage yourself. You're telling them what to do, you're telling them what you need, and guess what follows? Their treatment options are based on your experience, not on the average that the medical evidence refers to. That might be background in their decision making, but everything is based on your experience. Again, that is powerful. You're now moving the needle on your own treatment. You are now a partner with your doctor in your own care. That's an entirely new dynamic and one that I believe you should embrace. Use your doctor for your benefit. They want to help, so help them help you. But this is something where you own that power. I, I'll say this, logging your experiences is the most underrated and overlooked activity in all of healthcare, but it is the most powerful. It is the way you define yourself. It is the way that you know yourself.
